Automatic encryption and decryption in Enigmail under XFCE desktop environment
When running Thunderbird with Enigmail under XFCE, Enigmail will not offer to remember your passphrase. This is due to the Gnome keyring deamon not running. This can be changed by ticking the box to 'launch GNOME services on startup' under Settings -> Session and Startup -> Advanced.
