how to get rid of 'abc'-trending search suggestions?

Just updated Trisquel mini 11. Two questions:
1.) Because the address bar contained the Wikipedia icon with a downward triangle beside it thought to check the settings, several other search engines, including 'Actions', were prechecked. (Normally I only use Wikipedia .) Also noticed that in the 'Search' settings for 'Search Suggestions', 'Show trending searches' is prechecked, though greyed out. Clicking on 'learn more' beside it leads to
https://trisquel.info/en/wiki/google-trending-searches-on-awesomebar, it says page does not exist.
Even though the check mark is greyed out, how can I get it UNchecked??
2.) The security update included something to give more(?) sudo ability to certain users (sorry, didn't write down the exact words, hadn't noticed it in previous updates), then during the installation it said 'configuring sudo'. What's the advantage of including this in an update?
"Thanks!" in advance to those answering!
The "trending search" feature only applies if you have Google as your default search engine: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/use-google-trending-search-firefox-address-bar
You can test for yourself that if you set your search engine to Google you will be able to check/uncheck that box. I have StartPage as my default search engine so it is grayed out for me.
