Around when will new version of Trisquel come out?

A good rule of thumb is every two years but this doesn't always hold up. There is no schedule: It comes out when it's ready.
I somewhat accidentally installed trisquel-mini_12.0_amd64 on a VM, and its kernel version says 6.8. This is of course not something you want to do if you are looking for an official release version with all safety belts attached, but it is nonetheless up and running on that VM.

I installed Trisquel 12 mini using that iso in a VM, not accidentally.
Observations:
- install proceeded ok
- at reboot, when doing updates, got the attach screenshot. I tried ticking altenatively the boxes, or all ticked, it goes back to the same screen anyway so I finally said to skip installing grub. After that, I could still boot the VM ok.
- when trying to do updates in a terminal, got a message that some updates were not installed due to phasing. When using the GUI for software updates, this does not appear (which I guess is right).
- running trisquel-app-install immediately ends the session and goes to the session greeter to open a session.
EDIT: starting gthumb, gajim or pidgin also ends the session. No such problem with abrowser, libreoffice, evolution, liferea or transmission.
EDIT2: Attached extracted journal exactly at the time of a crash when starting gajim (previous message is more than 15s before, so clearly unrelated).
EDIT3: now tried on T400 with gnuboot, same issue about "installing grub" (I said not to install, anyway, there is grub in the flash) but no problem when starting trisquel-app-install, pidgin or gajim. However, when I update the packages with trisquel-app-install, the window eventually disappears (segmentation fault).

The ISO is a proof of concept, barely it could be called an Alpha.
Still it does help to have an idea of what's coming, I'm calling for users with time and computing resources willing to test several development changes to contact me so we can keep moving forward the development.
The main place for discussion will be the development mailing list.
Either way I'm easily found at IRC / Matrix.

Do you have XMPP or GNU Jami account, or do Trisquel developers have a XMPP MUC or GNU Jami room?
XMPP is more lightweight and secure than Matrix in many aspects. One of such is that XMPP doesn't support faking links using text formatting (XMPP supports text formatting, but not the link part).
Besides, many good free/libre XMPP clients don't require JS to use so it is a step against the WWWorst App Store. It is also more usable with Replicant devices since the basic functionality of opening the app, texting and sending attachments don't require graphics acceleration.
Luckily, Trisquel already comes with Pidgin installed, which provides very basic compatibility with XMPP (but the version of Gajim in the standard Trisquel repositories is even better in compatibility with some of the recent XMPP standard extensions).
As an alternative, since trisquel-recommended does list GNU Jami, then it would also be a good idea to be there.

Impatient people can join the development mainling list and follow instructions to install Trisquel 12 from the network installer. From a few days testing, I can say it works fine on my T400 (apart from the random boot delay that was already there in Trisquel 11 and before).
I tried MATE, GNOME and KDE. I did not notice any change on MATE, I find GNOME a little better (better resizing of settings menu, some new useful extensions, still not localized though), KDE looks the same but I saw a few differences (unfortunately, kwin-bismuth does not work on KDE 5.27, and polonium from the KDE store does not work well).

Just like Avron mentioned, stay tuned on the development channels as there we might be releasing more pieces to test.

No, we'll be testing new stuff (for the Trisquel ecosystem at least) that is not tested for production just yet and might break or lose your data if not done with the proper precautions, so using the development channels should point you in the be intelligent, be careful mindset.
So, when is it gonna be released then?

The long explanation is, as more 'well crafted feedback' we get back, is the more we can fix/polish things up, the more issues we target then the longer it will take, so far we have a very good progress on the packages as individual items. Soon we'll be requesting help to test them as a whole, I hope you can help us with that, so I suppose we only have few hardcore development work left, but more polishing and customizing, which also tends to take time to iron out the wrinkles, is the time that will take to have some Release Candidates, then a final release.
