Question for jxself since I see you use a landline phone. Interested in ditching my GrapheneOS Pixel 7a.

I'm interested in ditching my cellphone, but I had some questions for jxself or anyone else that uses a landline phone still.
Copper landline isn't available in my area, but my internet provider offers a VOIP option as an additional cost on the internet bill. Doing it this way, I would qualify for a government discount too.
What's the most free software way to go about accomplishing this goal?
I think you are looking for asterisk the program, which is still in the repository...

I haven't tried it yet, as I should, but this might be the option you are looking for.
I would just continue to keep using grapheneos honestly. you still have most of your privacy using that, except the carrier of course.
Whose to say the landline won't have its own issues after all anyways.
I have the regular 7 myself.
> continue to keep using grapheneos
Do not encourage people to use non free software on this forum.
How about you not be an arrogant narcissist.
Landline also uses non-free software, so eff off in plain english.
Landline also uses non-free software
Can you elaborate on that? Analog phones have no software, and for VoIP using SIP, you can use a computer with Trisquel as a phone. The ISP might run non-free software on their computers, but that harms their freedom, not yours.
if the ISP runs the non-free software, you might as well be running it because of the below:
ISPs tend to spy on their clients... its the reality of the situation.
Your post shows your lack of basic knowledge about free software. An important free software sentence says: Either you control the computer or the computer controls you. Part of controlling your computer is having the right to use, share, modify and redistribute all software running on your computer. Computers you do not own have no free software implications. They can run non free software or run free software. They can run surveillance software or not. In terms of free software it is irrelevant. You do not have a right or the ability to know or verify what software other people are running on their computers. Assuming you do not own your internet service provider's computers whatever software they are running have no free software implications for you. If you believe and oppose that your internet service provider is surveilling you, you will either have to seek adequate countermeasures or stop using that internet service provider.
Its possible I lack basic knowledge, about something, I don't know much about ISPs, for instance. I mostly just assumed they are run by non-free software since they spy on their clients.
No. You are not getting away with promoting non free software unopposed on this forum. If you determine somebody is promoting non free software on this forum you should correct them. I am sure that is not always done as consistently as called for. Your posts show you do not understand the matter of free software fully. You should concentrate on learning from this forum.
About landline phones I do not have knowledge enough to say every landline phone has non free software implications. I distrust your level of knowledge on the matter so much that if you say all landline phones have non free software implications then you will have to show documentation. If you happen to know that jxself's landline phone has non free software implications, you should tell him what they are.
Yeah no, proprietary software is something I do not condone, but non-free software is not a huge threat if it doesn't have built in malware. Maybe it is against the rules, in this forum, but you are making a big deal out of something that has no better alternative. You will either be spied on by the ISP, or use non-free software directly and have some privacy. In my mind, the 2nd option is always better.
The only part of grapheneos that spies is the modem.
As usual, you demonstrate that trisquel users care more about their idea of free software then basic privacy rights.
This is very peculiar.
Can you answer the following questions?
Are you an attention seeker? Is that why you are on this forum, to get attention? Your posts indicates that is why you are here. If you are an attention seeker then go somewhere else to get attention.
Does your lack of english skills make it difficult for you to read posts on this forum?
Do you have any interest in the matter of free software?
Do you want to learn about free software?
Why do you want to change the format of this forum?
This forum is about free software. If you want to discus other matters then join forums which match your interests.
Your posts are partly incoherent gibberish and contributes with nothing. You are only making a fool of yourself.
That's high praise
Which protocol does the VoIP option of your internet provider use? There might be thing specific to your ISP, it would be good to provide more details.
In France, OVH provides VoIP via SIP, it works with linphone on Trisquel 11 and with twinkle on Trisquel 12.
> linphone
Have you been using the package from the Aramo repo or the appimage?
The package from aramo. However, I have now stopped using aramo on machines with a display, I now have ecne. One ecne, I use twinkle. I think I tried linphone from ecne but it did not work (but I can't remember details).
I was thinking maybe you could try the appimage on Ecne, but if twinkle does the work you do not have any obvious reason to switch back. Also, assuming this issue report is telling the same story as what you experienced on Ecne, the problem seems to be present on the appimage too:
