When the beagle bone black got on the marked I obtained one because I heard it is able to run entirely on free software. I wanted to use it for flashing libreboot on a thinkpad t400. It did not work. And I used a raspberry pi. Today what are the best options in term of free software systems for the beagle bone black? Thank you.
I bought one of these way back, when the libreboot project recommended them for a fully free chip flashing platform. It does work for that, as I still use mine exclusively to do that.
As for other uses, it's apparently possible to run coreboot on those boards, though it's not really recommended for most practical use cases.
Best bet, if possible, is to simply put a free distro on there, or another distro that you can make as free as possible, and just have fun with it.
The Beagle Bone Black boards are a bit dated by now, but, they can be used with exclusively free software, so, they are still a nice relevant niche.
