menu items in the lxpanel menu sometimes disappear until reboot

sometimes, the items in the lxpanel's menu disappear. this has happened to me twice, and it stays like that until i reboot the computer.

logging out doesn't fix it, nor does running "xdg-desktop-menu forceupdate". i also tried the folowing, but it doesn't work for me:

I hope my post here may be of help to some. If you find later that your issue is unrelated, please respond to one of my earlier posts. Even if I can't fix it I have probably been able to reproduce it (sounds similar to my issues). This may only result in a little more attention to the biggest issue(s) involved here. Hopefully, someone knows better than I, how to fix part of this...
